Our Story

Formation of HKCIN (2019)

In 2019, Hong Kong Children In Need (HKCIN) was established by Mr. Matthew Ho, a seasoned professional in the financial services industry with a background in prominent global investment institutions. Recognizing that students should not be solely fixated on exam preparation and stressing over achieving perfect grades, Matthew envisioned a society where holistic education is a universal opportunity.

To bring this vision to life, he founded HKCIN, an organization dedicated to providing a diverse range of afterschool activities to underprivileged students in Hong Kong. The goal is to offer these students a chance to explore and nurture their individual interests.

Early Stages (2019)

Music, Sports and ECAs

Initially, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our focus was primarily on delivering year-long school based extracurricular opportunities, with a particular emphasis on free play, sports, and music and other extra curricular experiences. We arranged various activities, including “Sports Program”, “Transforming Lives through Music” and “Music & Sports Scholarship”.

Impact of COVID-19 (2020)

Moving towards STEAM

However, the emergence of the pandemic in 2019 prompted a significant shift in our approach. We recognized the need to adapt to the online learning landscape and decided to redirect our efforts toward enhancing STEAM and technology education in Hong Kong. Consequently, HKCIN’s current focus revolves around providing high-quality free STEAM learning experiences for both individuals and schools. Our aim is to empower these students, enabling them to thrive in a swiftly evolving world as future innovators and adept problem-solvers.
